Problem with your Box topiary or hedge?
Box hedges and topiary can suffer from 'Box blight' a fungal disease and from Box Tree caterpillar.
Biological pesticide spraying to target caterpillars (biodegradable, minimal effect to non target wildlife, animals and humans)
Lure traps for adult moths
Balanced fertiliser to reinvigorate plants
Box tree caterpillar can be a real problem for gardens in the south east of England. Unfortunately it is a problem that isn't going to go away without intervention. What can start as a minor problem can quickly accelerate as each female moth lays hundreds of eggs. The emerging caterpillars can defoliate a plant quite quickly, moving onto the bark when all the leaves have been eaten. The egg, caterpillar, pupa, moth lifecycle can repeat four times over a season, which reduces the chances that the plant can recover without intervention.
Box blight can cause plants to suddenly die back and often there is very little that can be done. However these symptoms look similar to box caterpillar and it is always worth getting a second opinion
